Venezuelan NGOs and Foundations:
Phelps Ornithological Collection, in Caracas
CICTMAR working on sea turtle conservation, especially on the Paria Peninsula. The site includes information on how to sponsor a turtle or nest - a great, modestly priced gift that helps fund the teams monitoring the beaches and protecting the adults, nests and hatchlings each nesting season.

Professional Birding Guides in Venezuela:
Based on our personal experience, living, travelling, hiking, mountain biking, photographing and birding in Venezuela over the past six years, I highly recommend the bird guiding and logistics services of both
David Ascanio (
www.ascaniobirding.com - including travellers tips, bird lists, Spanish bird name lists and excellent links to Venezuelan metereological sites) and
Chris Sharpe (
www.birdvenezuela.com). In addition to offering a professional service and enjoyable company, they are both actively involved in Venezuelan conservation initiatives through personal involvement in various research activities, NGOs and/or Foundations.
On any self-guided tour,
Mary Lou Goodwin's "Birding in Venezuela" (Lynx Edicions) is entertaining reading for the birder and non-birder alike as it provides invaluable help in finding top birding sites, navigating the back-roads of the country and generally enjoying the beautiful national parks and other hidden Venezuelan treasures. I have been unable to replace a recently lost copy as the book was out of print last time I enquired at the Venezuelan Audubon office.
